Common Home Care Services

Flexible Services on Your Terms

No two clients are the same, which means no two care plans should be, either. At Griswold Home Care, we offer a wide variety of services so that we can perfectly accommodate the unique needs of each of our clients. People often ask us what the phrases ‘home care services’ or ‘caregiver services’ mean. These phrases refer to a broad range of care types and the specific duties of each.

Caregivers can assist with activities of daily living that we would normally do ourselves to remain functional at home, like bathing, dressing, hygiene cooking and much more. Internal staff members from each office work with you to understand your needs. Before you are provided services, a care coordinator will speak with you over the phone and meet with you in person for an in-home visit to discuss your needs and preferences.

Frequently Asked Questions About Common Home Care Services

Do you still feel independent when you use home care?

Yes. Using home care services means you’re in control of your activities and retain as much independence as your situation allows. Many of our clients just need a little help to continue their lifestyle as usual. Others might be recovering from a fall or surgery or living with a permanent condition.

Who should consider home care services?

Services are not limited to seniors. Anyone who needs assistance with activities of daily living, for a short period of time or permanently, can enjoy the benefits home care has on one’s physical and emotional health.

Whether you need a few hours a week or 24-hour care around the clock, home care services are customized to fit each family’s needs.

What is the difference between home care and home health?

Home care usually refers to non-medical care. Home health companies do provide services at home, but typically for those who need skilled assistance such as changing bandages, handling IVs, and administering medication.

How does Griswold attract the best caregivers?

Our founder set a high standard in 1982, and we still use it every day. Like any great working professional, the best caregivers are attracted to organizations that provide more than the basics. They look for organizations that share their drive to help others and treat them with respect. In answer, we encourage you to meet one of our local Directors. The compassion and empathy they show you are the same they show to caregivers.

What if I don’t like a caregiver?

Office teams do their best to stay in touch with you about your satisfaction with the referral, but if you are unhappy with a caregiver, always feel free to reach out to the office. They will be happy to match you with another caregiver quickly and at no additional cost.

Will I have a choice in selecting the caregiver?

Absolutely! Feedback from clients indicates that a personality match is the #1 factor in a caregiver match, so we highly encourage client input! We also work with each family in an initial home visit to understand what unique skills and personality they are looking for in a caregiver.

What is the process of finding a caregiver?

Finding a home care services partner should be simple, and it should be quick! Just give us a call to tell us about your needs. We’ll set up a meeting at your home or in a place of your choosing. During that visit, we’ll make sure we understand everything you need, and you can let us know if you have any additional questions or requests before we match you with a caregiver. We do our best to match you with a caregiver within 24 hours.

Can home care services help with Alzheimer’s and dementia?

Yes. Home care is often critical to managing this disease at home. In fact, according to the Alzheimer’s Association of America, approximately 70 percent of people with dementia or cognitive impairment live at home. The only exception is for clients in the late stages of the disease who need intensive medical care.

Remaining at home and in familiar surroundings that include friends, family, and routines is particularly important to those with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Caregivers can help create balance and consistency for clients.

Can caregivers assist with medication?

Medication adherence is extremely important to remaining safe at home. Caregivers cannot administer medication, but they can remind clients when it’s time to take their medication. Drug treatment plans that include sorting and administering medications should only be handled by a family caregiver, nurse, or physician who is authorized and qualified to provide this service.

How flexible is Griswold Home Care with individual home care needs?

Service plans are tailored to meet your specific needs. If your needs change, your services can change, too!
